Our Children

The daily environment and experiences encourage and challenge children’s curiosity, knowledge and skills. Staff are committed to providing a daily program that reflects emergent curriculum principles.

The program is adapted daily to reflect children’s interests, individual needs and developmental stage. Staff work with children in small groups or on an individual basis in order for children to reach their full potential.

Depending on their age, maturity and place availability, children belong to one of our three rooms - Joeys (0-2), Wombats (2-3½) and Kookaburras (3½-6).

Joeys Room: Age 0-2

Joeys is a spacious room where activities focus on:

  • Gross and fine motor skills;
  • Language and problem-solving skills;
  • Emotional and social development skills;
  • Small group creative experiences.

Wombats Room: Age 2-3½

The Wombat room provides an environment where children can:

  • engage in concrete hands-on experiences to develop their knowledge and skills;
  • initiate their own learning and develop independence;
  • engage in experiences from all the curriculum areas;
  • work in small social groups to develop problem solving skills and learn to work co-operatively with others.

Kookaburra Room: Age 3½-6

The Kookaburra room (Kookas) functions on a preschool basis and includes school readiness skills including, but not limited to:

  • Children's socialisation and problem-solving skills;
  • Small group projects and experiences;
  • Writing practice;
  • Letter and sound recognition;
  • Mathematical and scientific concepts and skills;
