Testimonials

I have had two children at Possums' Corner and have nothing but good things to say about the centre. Both children started at the centre as babies and my second child is now about to start school. The care that they had as babies was exceptional, the communication between staff and parents has always been excellent and the preschool program for the 3-5 year olds has prepared my children well for their transition into school life. I have watched my young son grow from a very shy 3 year old into a confident 5 year old who adjusted to school life with ease.

We initially chose Possums' Corner to send our first child for 2 reasons, firstly because it was 'not for profit' and all the proceeds went towards the children and secondly because it was managed by the parents, thus ensuring we had some involvement in the care delivered to our child. Since those early days we have had 3 children 'graduate'. They emerged socially confident and academically prepared for the next stage of their learning, into Primary school.

At each stage of our children's development the staff provided not only cuddles and hot meals but an environment where they learned about living skills, social relationships, creative play, early stages of literacy and numeracy and most importantly how to identify their feelings and behave appropriately with them.

During our 8 year relationship with Possums' I spent many hours with the Director and senior staff discussing my children. They were regularly assessed by the teaching staff and learning goals identified, consistent with each child and their individual needs. Programs developed with the children were a solid blend of every day life skills, such as cooking, home corner, construction and creative arts with the more innovative Yoga and movement groups.

Parental involvement is something encouraged by Possums' Corner. It means sitting on the management committee, assisting with fund raisers, attending functions, lending a hand when something is broken or just coming in and sharing your culture or family traditions with the children. Whilst we both worked, my husband and I enjoyed spending a little time with the kids and getting to know their friends. It is a great way to get to know the children and staff that your child spends their day with. Those parents who were not able to get involved valued the input from those who could.

We would highly recommend Possums' Corner as a child care centre for families who wish to play an active role in their child's development.

We have had our son attend Possums' Corner Child Care centre for the last eighteen months. He started when he was 6 months old. We looked at several other child care centres in Lane Cove before deciding on Possums Corner as it really stood out when comparing child care centres. We have found the staff at possums lovely to deal with and they always look out for the best interests of each child. We have never had any issues that the staff have not been able to resolve. As they are not-for-profit, Possums hold fund-raising events which further serve to strengthen the Possums community. We have found these events quite enjoyable as well as constructive for the ongoing future of possums.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your staff for the high standard of care you provide. We have felt comfortable at Possums' Corner since day one and find that all the staff are friendly and welcoming towards parents, grandparents & children. The staff in the Joey’s are happy to have a casual chat, which has facilitated building a good rapport with them, as well as to offer advice and fill us in on Charlie’s day in care. We like being a part of a community centre and the involvement that this encompasses, believing that this provides a higher level and more personal care for the children and understanding of the centre by the parents.
