We acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land on which we work and live. We pay tribute to their continuing culture and we pay our respects to all Elders past and present, and to the children of today who are our Elders of the future.
Possums Corner Childcare
Possums’ Corner is a community-run not-for-profit child care centre caring for children from 2 months of age up to preschool. In addition to being a long daycare service, we offer a preschool program for children in the year before school. Included in our daily rate for preschoolers are two sessions of Mandarin per week. Parents may also choose to enrol their child in Happy Feet, Ready Steady Go and Pro Tennis at an additional cost.
We provide nappies that are biodegradable and are disposed of in biodegradable bin liners reducing our environmental impact.
We have a full-time cook at our service serving morning tea, hot freshly prepared lunch, and afternoon tea daily.
We use Storypark to keep our families updated about service events and post regular updates from each room.
Our dedicated staff create a warm and welcoming atmosphere in a homely, natural environment. Possums' was assessed in 2017 achieving an exceeding rating in all quality areas.
Our service is managed by a committee comprised of parents who have children enrolled at Possums’. We are open Mondays to Fridays from 7 am to 6 pm, 50 weeks of the year.
"When looking for the right centre for my unborn child I didn’t really know what to look for. A number of people told me to ‘go and have a look and see how it feels.’ When I arrived at Possums’ Corner the first thing I noticed was the friendly greeting by the staff, it was organised and clean. I then witnessed a child crying because he fell over and one of the staff members immediately picked the child up and gave him a big reassuring cuddle. I was immediately put at ease. I could see the centre was going to provide, kindness and security for my child. Possum’s has delivered that in spades. I have always felt like the staff adore my children and have taught them so much, while giving them lots of love and tenderness. I particularly liked the separate outdoor area for the Joey’s room, important so young children aren’t over run by
pre-schoolers. I liked the easy access to parking and transport, I liked that it was
not- for profit and all the funds go back into the centre and I also liked that staff had been working there a long time, a sign that they enjoy where they work. Staff turnover in long day care is usually high, but not at Possum’s where the staff and children are like family. I have been involved in the Management Committee for
2 years and love the fact that I can give back something to the kind people caring
for my children."
